Artist Background
Artist Background
Suffolk based Jane Hewlett's work focuses on portraying the coastal landscapes unique atmosphere. In many ways it is a poetic voyage back through several generations; the local fishing boats which she depicts feature traditional fishing equipment around the colourful hulls. The boats are often deserted, perhaps hinting at the decline in the local fishing industry. However, there is nothing melancholic about her work; rather it is a celebration of the clarity of colour and light that has attracted so many artists to the East Anglican coast over the years. The Suffolk coast has held a particular fascination for her since her childhood when summer holidays were spent by the sea at Aldeburgh. Jane paints primarily in oil, very often on a gesso ground using a technique which enables her to achieve a purity of colour and a chalky texture ideally suited to depicting the depletion of the coastal landscape.

We use 2mm cast acrylic, which is visually indistinguishable from glass and virtually unbreakable.
We specifically do not use styrene, as, though cheaper, it is normally only 1mm thick, offers far less support, and goes yellow over time.
We use MDF backboard for strength. As MDF is a wood product, it can contain acids. To safeguard against these leeching out and affecting your print, we insert an acid free sheet of conservation barrier board between the back and print.
All of our prints are delivered ready to hang.
