Preparation

Irish champagne, ebony nectar, black custard, pint of plain or simply "the black stuff". Whatever you call yours, this sign makes for the perfect addition to any mancave, beer garden, home bar, or just anywhere else in a home or garden of those who truly appreciate a pint or two of Guinness.

This modern reproduction of a classic Guinness bar advert from the 1930s and 40s, the Guinness Toucan is one of the more visually striking and recognisable of the remarkably effective ad campaigns to have come from St. James' Gate over the years. The holographic finish also adds a level of depth and dynamism to this particular print which makes it even more enticing to pour a pint and enjoy. Also, as it's sealed in acrylic, both the poster and the acrylic backed framed options are completely safe to hang outside, in all weathers.

Artist Background

Born in 1898 in Whitley Bay, John Gilroy worked for distinguished advertising agency S.H. Benson, which took on Guinness as an account on the strength of his work. From 1925 onwards, he produced artwork for multiple Guinness advertising campaigns which have gone on to gain iconic status as the years have passed. 'The Toucan' was originally drawn up in the mid 1930s, and was a playful way to align Guinness with the revolution of the time, commercial aircraft.

Product Specification

We use 2mm cast acrylic, which is visually indistinguishable from glass and virtually unbreakable.

We specifically do not use styrene, as, though cheaper, it is normally only 1mm thick, offers far less support, and goes yellow over time.

We use MDF backboard for strength. As MDF is a wood product, it can contain acids. To safeguard against these leeching out and affecting your print, we insert an acid free sheet of conservation barrier board between the back and print.

All of our prints are delivered ready to hang.
